The Fleet

Every app is a light we keep burning.

Ventures

Some builds grow into their own brand.

Not everything stays under the Black Beacon name. These are full products — their own brands, their own customers — designed and built here, then set loose to stand on their own.

The Studio

Built by one. Held to a standard.

Todd K. Edwards

Founder · Designer · Engineer

Fifteen-plus years designing learning and experiences at Collins Aerospace, Motorola Solutions, and Lunarline — now designing, building, and shipping software solo. Every product is handled end to end, so it all carries the same care, whether it's a survival game or a tool to get you through a rough night.

Nothing ships unless it earns the light. The lighthouse is the point: a steady, dependable signal in a noisy sea of apps.

The beacon doesn't chase the ships. It just keeps burning, so they can find their way in.

Work with us

The studio behind these apps can build yours.

Everything in the fleet above — we designed it, built it, and shipped it. We'll do the same for your idea: taken from a first sketch to a live product on the App Store, handled end to end. No handoffs, no outsourced black box — you work directly with the person who builds it, and you get something that actually ships.

Idea to App Store

Strategy, design, engineering, and launch under one roof — a finished product, not a prototype.

Built to last

Native and engineered properly — not a demo that falls over the moment real users arrive.

Direct & accountable

You work with the person who builds it. No account managers, no black box.

How it works

From your idea to your users — four steps.

A clear path, no mystery. You always know exactly where your project stands.

01

Discovery

We map what you're building, who it's for, and what "done" looks like — so we aim at the right thing before a line of code.

02

Design

Screens, flow, and feel. You see and approve the real thing taking shape — not a vague brief or a wall of text.

03

Build

Engineered properly, in the open. Regular check-ins and working builds you can actually try — no black box.

04

Launch

Submitted, shipped, and live — App Store or web — with a plan for what comes after.

Pricing

Ballpark numbers, no games.

Every project's quoted to its scope — but here's the range so you're not guessing. Consumer apps, small-business tools, games; iOS, Mac, Vision Pro, and web — with Windows and Android on the table too. Got something in mind? Let's talk it through.

Small build

$6k–12k

A focused app or MVP — a few core screens, built properly and shipped to the store.

Standard build

$12k–30k

Real backend, accounts, and integrations — a product ready for actual users, not a demo.

Ambitious build

$30k+

Bigger scope, more features or more platforms — quoted together once we've mapped it out.

Also — redesigns & feature work from $3k · ongoing support from $2k/mo · not sure where you land? A paid discovery sprint scopes it out before you commit to a full build.

Founding-client rates. The studio's client work is just getting off the ground — so the first few projects go out at a reduced rate, in exchange for a testimonial once it ships. Good time to be first in the door.

Questions

Answered before you ask.

What kinds of projects do you take on?

iOS apps, web apps, games, and AI features — from a brand-new MVP to a rebuild of something you already have. If it ships to real people, it's in scope.

I only have an idea — is that enough to start?

Absolutely. A rough idea is the most common starting point. The Discovery step exists to turn it into a clear, buildable plan before anything gets made — so you're never paying to figure out what you want.

How long does a project take?

It depends on scope, but most focused MVPs land in a matter of weeks, not months. You'll get a realistic timeline up front, in Discovery, before you commit to anything.

What does it cost?

Projects are quoted to scope — fixed-price for a well-defined build, or monthly for ongoing work. Tell me what you're building and you'll get a straight number, not a runaround.

Do I own the app and the code?

Yes — all of it. The code, the accounts, the App Store listing. It's your product, with no lock-in and nothing held hostage.

Do you handle App Store submission and updates after launch?

Yes. Design through submission and go-live, App Store or web — I've shipped my own apps through the exact same process. Fixes, updates, and new features can continue monthly or one-off, whatever you need.
