Black Beacon Studios Reso

Reso Privacy Policy

The Short Version

Reso learns your work rhythm from which app is in front of you and when. That record is kept on your Mac and never sent to us or anyone else. There is no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Two things ever leave your Mac: a daily check for a newer version of Reso, and feedback you choose to send.

What Reso records, on your Mac

This is stored as files in your Library folder (~/Library/Application Support/RhythmLogger and ~/Library/Application Support/Metre) and in Reso's settings. It is read only by Reso, on your Mac.

What Reso never records

Pausing and deleting

Choose Pause watching from the menu bar ring at any time; while paused, Reso records nothing. To delete everything Reso has recorded, quit Reso and delete the two folders above. Uninstalling Reso is as simple as moving it to the Trash.

Feedback you choose to send

Reso has a Feedback page inside its panel. Nothing is sent unless you press Send. What's sent: what you type, the kind of feedback you picked (bug, idea, praise or question), your email only if you enter one, the Reso tab you were on, Reso's version, your macOS version, Mac model and language setting. What's never sent: anything Reso watches. No app names, no timeline, no breaks, no deep work, no screen content.

Feedback is stored in a private database hosted by Supabase, our backend provider. The app can only add feedback, never read it back. To have your feedback deleted, email reso@blackbeaconstudios.net.

Requesting an invite

The invite form on blackbeaconstudios.net/reso sends your email, whether you're on a Mac or Windows, who invited you if you came through an invite link, and your browser's language. We use it only to send your invite (or, for Windows, to tell you if Reso comes to Windows). It's stored in the same private database as feedback, and the page can only add to it, never read it. To be taken off the list, email reso@blackbeaconstudios.net.

Checking for updates

About once a day, and when you choose Check for updates, Reso asks blackbeaconstudios.net whether a newer version exists. What's sent: the request itself, which like any web request includes your IP address, and Reso's version number. What's never sent: anything Reso watches, and no profile of your Mac. Updates are downloaded from blackbeaconstudios.net, and Reso installs one only if it carries our signature. Reso uses the open-source Sparkle framework for this.

What Reso does not do

Notifications and login

Reso can show its own on-screen nudges and, when those are off, macOS notifications. It opens at login so it can keep noting your day; you can turn that off in System Settings, General, Login Items.

Children

Reso is a work tool for adults and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above will change, and anything significant will be noted in the app's release notes.
