RUMMIJ Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 1, 2026
The Short Version
RUMMIJ helps you find local garage and yard sales, search for items, plan a route, and — if you're hosting — post your own sale. There are no ads, we do not sell your data, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. Your location stays on your device and is used only while you're using the app.
No account, no personal profile
You don't create an account, and we don't ask for your name, email, or phone number to use the app. RUMMIJ signs you in anonymously with a random identifier so your posts and lists stay associated with your device. We do not build an advertising profile about you.
Information the app uses
- Location — with your permission, your approximate location centers the map on sales near you and opens directions. It's used only while you're using the app, never collected in the background, and never sent to our servers. You can decline or change this anytime in your device Settings.
- Sale listings you post — the title, description, dates and times, street address, map pin, and item list for a sale you create. Because a garage sale is a public event, this information is shown to other people on the map.
- Photos — if you add photos to a sale, they're uploaded so buyers can see them, and they're processed by an AI service to automatically tag the items in them (see below).
- Your lists — saved sales, your "hunt list" of items you're looking for, your "My Day" route, and any "treasures" you log. Most of these stay on your device; hunt-list terms and treasures are stored with your anonymous ID so features work across sessions.
- Notification token — if you enable alerts, your device's push token is stored so we can notify you when a nearby sale lists something on your hunt list, or when a sale you saved changes status.
- Pasted text — if you use "paste a listing," the text you paste is sent to an AI service to extract a draft listing for you to review.
AI processing
To make sales searchable, RUMMIJ sends your sale photos and any listing text you paste to Anthropic's Claude API, which returns a list of item tags. This happens on our server; the AI key is never in the app. Only the sale content is sent — no location or personal identifiers. Anthropic processes this data to provide the tagging service and does not use it to train its models.
Where data is stored
App data — listings, items, lists, photos, and notification tokens — is stored with our backend provider, Supabase. Photos of sales are stored in a publicly readable bucket so they can be shown on listings.
Service providers
- Supabase — database, storage, and anonymous authentication.
- Anthropic (Claude API) — AI item tagging and listing extraction.
- Apple Push Notification service — delivering hunt-list and sale-status alerts.
- Apple Maps / Google Maps — opened for directions when you tap "Directions" or start a route. Those apps have their own privacy policies.
Moderation & safety
Because sales and photos are user-generated, you can report a listing or block a host from the ••• menu on any sale. Reported listings are reviewed, and blocking hides everything from that host on your device.
Your choices & deleting your data
- You can take down any sale you posted (My Sales → open the sale → Take down this sale), and sales automatically expire after their last day.
- You can remove saved sales and logged treasures in the app.
- You can turn location and notifications off at any time in your device Settings.
- To request deletion of content associated with your device, email us at the address below and we'll remove it.
Children
RUMMIJ is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
